quite effective alternative to Network Manager
Gnome users do not usually have trouble managing their wireless connections to the Network Manager included in the default desktop environment. This does not mean that there are no alternatives to this program.
One of the most functional is WICD, a wireless network operator rather complete and looks really nice.
One of the main advantages WICD is to serve both novice and advanced users, always showing the basic functions of input and revealing more advanced as we are enabling the controls.
detects different types of encryption (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.). And lets you set the password for them easily. Also, change the local IP addresses and DNS servers will be an equally simple.
If we add consumption resources really low and pretty good integration with the Gnome desktop, we WICD an alternative to Network Manager very consider.
Notes:
Network-Manager will need to uninstall prior to installing the program.
Requirements:
Distribution: Ubuntu 10.10
